Project description

Richard Martinson was appointed by the University of Oxford to manage the delivery of the refurbishment of a three storey Georgian period property for a new scholarship programme. The building was developed into a place of study and a ‘home from home’ for 15 students in the first year, with a provision for additional students in year two.

The project brief was to provide a place of learning with seminar space and relaxation areas, all serviced by high quality IT and Audio Visual systems. The project was developed within a short timescale giving close consideration to the constraints of refurbishing a listed building within the heart of Oxford, with the added complication of a party wall award.

Stakeholder management was fundamental to the successful delivery of the project and required the coordination of the design team and benefactors together with a peer review architect based in New York.
